Sherry made a good observation on yesterdays post about my choice in cropping. I told her I agreed that it would have been stronger if I had not cut through the window pane. The problem was I didn’t have a choice compositionally and settled for what I did.
Today, I thought I’d share a few other takes from this particular shoot. All had challenges in organizing the space within the frame. Ultimately I had to make choices and forget about rules. Your comments as always are welcome.
Love these – and flowers too! 🙂
Why did I know that you would find the flower basket??? 🙂
Very, very nice.
JB, it seems to me that the strongest element in this series is the vertical line. Is there a reason that you chose a horizontal crop? Actually, I really like the way you did it and I doubt that I would have had the imagination to do it that way. Well done…
I shot them both ways Scott. I posted all here in hopes of generating a conversation…
Hey John,
I thought I’d throw my 2 cents in. What I see is 2 separate shots cut down the middle. Eliminate the pipe on the left one and use it on the right one. They are both strong graphic images and can stand my themselves. Cheers!
Thanks for taking time to comment Gale. I was hoping I might get a constructive comment like this. I too struggled with the placement of the pipe and choose to post as is to see what folks might say and to stimulate conversation about it. If you are speaking of the top or lead image, while I see the pipe in the middle I also see other elements (flowers and bricks) being strong enough to keep the eye moving throughout the frame… That said, I could live with your ideas too! 🙂
Yes, I was referring to the top image. Then I scrolled down and saw the bottom one. Love it. My favorite kind of photography.
🙂 Thanks Gale!
Really fine work, John. The compositions and your comments are food for thought.
Thanks Dan. Always appreciate your comments.
Good series.
I think the top image would also look good cropped between the white and purple bricks. Then everything would be pointing at the flower basket which is a nice counterpoint to the strong graphic nature of the rest of the image.
I also really like the strong graphic nature of the last image.
I can appreciate how challenging it must have been to focus on individual elements.
