After 4 long days without power, we were back on the grid at 10PM last night. We just don’t know how blessed we are until we are without do we?
The gang in the Smokies was tremendous and flexible. Flexible as we needed to modify our schedule due to weather changing daily. All in all, we did very well with lush open forest color and great graphic images. Honestly, more interesting to photograph than a wall of color to me. The blog image is another favorite from the trip. My tour partner Dan Sniffin, found the scene. I was initially not overwhelmed, however, when I processed it, it came to life and I understood what he saw. A lesson was learned that day and I have now added this type of scene to my visual memory bank. I will be looking for similar scenes in the future. More about visual memory in the future!
Although it seemed long, considering the magnitude of this storm 4 days really isn’t bad at all. Happy safe family.
No, not long at all. I’m sure after seeing other streets locally, it will be another week here for many. And of course others have lost everything. All in perspective, we are blessed.
And another lovely image from you John with lessons for me. I sometimes see similar scenes and marvel at their beauty but can never seem to get a satisfying composition. This is the sort of shot I have been looking to take. And glad to heat you have power back!
Welcome back to the world of heat and light? Buy didn’t you feel like a pioneer?…….yea right!!
John, your image reminds me of the line about seeing something as being half full & half empty. Trees with leaves are on the left and bare ones on the right. One of your messages – a photo reflects the photographer’s recent experiences & emotional state. In your image I see transition and loss. Those seem to be the messages for many of us this week.
Glad you’re safe and welcome back. The blog image is beautiful and I really enjoy textural quality that is displayed.
